Espresso is a strong, cuddly, wonderfully dog with a personality as big as his heart. At five and a half years old and 54 pounds, he's a mix of power and sweetness, the kind of dog who can make you laugh just by curling himself into a tight little ball on the couch or dog bed. His foster mom says that moment when this tough, muscular dog transforms into a cozy cinnamon roll is one of her favorite things about him.
He came from an overcrowded Texas shelter where he was at risk of euthanasia simply because there wasn't enough space. Now safe in rescue, he's thriving in a predictable, comforting routine. His days are a mix of walks, backyard runs, and lounging at home. He loves his boring routine, and it suits him perfectly. Espresso is potty-trained, crate-trained, affectionate, and snuggly. His shedding is high, but so is his capacity for love.
Espresso is very smart and knows sit, stay, down, and paw. He vocalizes some, like most dogs, and he walks beautifully on leash. He is dog selective and needs slow, thoughtful introductions; he can be reactive with unfamiliar dogs and people, but with proper structure, he coexists well with new foster dogs who come through his home. He is protective of his person, which is part of why he needs an experienced, knowledgeable owner who understands his breed, his strength, and his need for guidance. He should live with older children only and absolutely no cats.
His favorite toys are hard chew bones and durable toys, and his favorite activities are walking and playing outside. He enjoys hanging out both in the house and in the yard, and he seems equally content in either place. Espresso would do best in a calmer home with people who appreciate a strong dog with a big personality and who are willing to give him the structure he needs to feel safe.
His best-selling point is simple: he's a big teddy bear for someone with the strength and patience to work with him. For the right person, Espresso will be a fiercely loyal, deeply loving companion who gives back every ounce of effort poured into him.
