Meet Maggie! This 3-year-old, 60-pound suspected Retriever mix came to us from Southern Illinois after being found as a stray and ending up at animal control. While the shelter environment can be overwhelming for her, Maggie is a totally different dog in a home-and thats where her sweet, goofy personality shines!

Maggie LOVES people and would happily be your one-and-only. She can coexist with dogs who respect her boundaries, but shed prefer to be the center of attention. Shes obsessed with toys and bones, loves being outside, and has a great balance of playful energy and couch-potato mode.

Shes potty-trained with regular breaks and crate-trained, although she doesnt love her crate. Maggie is very smart, knows her commands, and responds well to positive reinforcement. Her new family should be patient as she settles in, as anxiety in a new environment may initially cause pacing, accidents, or destructive behavior. Shes still working on counter-surfing and leash manners, and she can be strong when she spots prey, so her adopter should be comfortable handling her. She also appears to have some separation anxiety, so a home where someone is around frequently would be ideal.

Because Maggie can jump, shell need a secure 6-foot fence, and shes still building confidence with consistent walks.

Maggie may need some patience and consistency as she adjusts, but once she feels safe, her loving, silly, and playful personality truly shines. Shes ready for a family who will give her the time and support to become her very best self!
