Meet Sweets The Definition of a Gentle Giant

Sweets is a 3-year-old, 72-pound lovebug whose name couldn't fit her better. Affectionate, devoted, gentle, bright-eyed, and endlessly snuggly, she's the kind of dog who forms deep bonds with her people and wants nothing more than to be by their side.

Originally from Southern Illinois, Sweets came to the shelter after her previous family could no longer properly care for their many animals. Despite her past, she has remained incredibly loving, trusting, and eager to find a family of her own.

One of the funniest things about Sweets is that she has absolutely no idea how big she is. Despite weighing 72 pounds, She'll happily pop up onto her hind legs to give her favorite humans giant hugs. If you're looking for personal space, Sweets may not be your girl. If you're looking for a velcro dog who thinks cuddling is a full-time job, she's perfect.

Sweets has the ideal medium energy level. She loves long walks, outdoor adventures, and exploring every interesting smell she can find, but she's equally happy lounging nearby once she's gotten some exercise. She tends to match the energy of the people around her, making her an easy companion for many lifestyles.

She's fully potty trained, walks beautifully on leash, and appears to know commands such as sit and here. While she doesn't love when her humans leave, she settles down after a few minutes and relaxes until they return. Her daily routine includes greeting volunteers with happy woofs and excited whines, enjoying a nice walk, spending time with her dog friends, soaking up affection, and finding a comfy spot to rest.

Sweets is exceptionally dog-friendly and has wonderful social skills. She enjoys chase games, gentle wrestling, and hanging out with canine companions. She knows how to communicate appropriately with other dogs and has a polite play style that makes her a favorite among her friends. She can also live with cats.

Because of her size and enthusiasm for affection, we recommend a home with older children.
