Meet Winston- the big-hearted, deaf, brindle-spotted goofball who will steal your couch and your heart!

Winston joined the FTF family as an 8-week-old pup back in October 2020, coming from a stray litter out of state. He was adopted quickly and they discovered he was deaf, but that hasn't slowed him down one bit-he's smart, eager to learn, and has mastered multiple hand signals. Later, they found out he also has some allergies (cats and baker's yeast), so he's on a chicken-free, yeast-free diet and receives Cytopoint injections to help keep him comfortable.

At 63 pounds, Winston is a medium-sized dog with a white coat splashed with brown and black brindle spots, plus the cutest brindle ears. He's equal parts active playmate and snuggly couch companion. He loves walks, car rides, tug-of-war, wrestling with his doggy sister, and sprawling out for sunny afternoon naps.

Winston currently lives with an older Sheltie and enjoys their playful rope games and occasional ball thievery. He can be leash-reactive with unfamiliar dogs, so slow introductions work best. With people, he sometimes needs time to warm up-he does best when given space (no talk, no touch, no eye contact at first) so he can approach at his own pace. High-value treats help him make new friends, and he does well with calm, respectful kids. Energetic little ones can make him nervous, so a quieter home is his ideal match.

This boy has great manners-he's fully potty trained, responds to hand signals, and understands cues to stay out of the kitchen or hop off furniture when asked. Since he's deaf, he uses a vibration collar for recall and to interrupt fence barking. He's been crate trained but hasn't needed one since he was a puppy.

Winston does well when left alone for a standard workday, though he appreciates a walk to burn off energy. He's also been to doggy daycare, where he played well with other big, friendly dogs.

Five words that sum him up: cuddly, love bug, goofball, playful, smart. Oh, and one more thing-when Winston gets really excited, he smiles. It's the kind of smile that could melt anyone's heart. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will keep you laughing and cuddled up, Winston is ready to meet you.
